Industrial visits 2011-12 (odd semester)

As part of the curriculum and to aware of the existing and current trends in the field of engineering & technology, Student Industrial visits to select places have been arranged by all the departments of Sri Ramana Polytechnic College, Moolaikaraipatti during this odd semester of academic year 2011-12.

Final year students of Department of Civil Engineering visited the Bhawani Sagar Dam in Erode district, which is the largest man made earthen dam in Tamilnadu built in 1948 and made comprehensive study about its civil structure and canals for water irrigation. Next they visited Isha Yoga centre near Coimbatore and witnessed the famous dome architecture made without using steel or concrete structure. Later they were taken to Pykara dam in Ooty and had a detailed study of its water storage and structural engineering. During this visit to Ooty, students had a chance to observe hairpin bends, retaining walls, steel bridges, abutments and way of making roads to hill stations.

Department of Mechanical Engineering arranged the student visits to Space museum of Liquid propulsion system centre (LPSC- ISRO) at Mahendragiri. Students got an opportunity to know about Space programmes, various launch vehicles, its various stages and associated control systems and components. Further, students visited Industrial Estate at Pettai, Tirunelveli and had a good exposure about casting, moulding, CNC operations, and production of mattresses. Moreover, Faculty and students visited Tuticorin Thermal Power station and observed the thermo dynamical aspects of the power generation

Students of EE & ECE Departments visited Doordarshan, Tirunelveli where they learned all types of broadcasting and functionalities in telecasting TV programmes. Next they visited Tirunelveli Hello 106.4 FM radio station and witnessed the way of recording, editing and relaying of FM programmes. Also they visited Tuticorin Thermal Power station and had a detailed observation about Steam turbines, Switch gears, Power generation and Transmission.

Department of Computer Engineering arranged the industrial visits to TANDEM, Tirunelveli, a centre for software testing and online exam and Microbit, a leading software company delaing with Japanese clients. With these visits, students had a good interaction on the recent trends in the software industry.
